What is Collagen powder?
Collagen powder is hydrolysed collagen protein, rich in the amino acids proline and glycine. These are the amino acids that form the building blocks of collagen itself. These contribute to the maintenance of healthy skin, hair, nails, bones, joints and connective tissue structure as part of your normal daily protein intake.
What does it taste like?
On its own, straight off the spoon, there's a very faint neutral note. Not unpleasant, just not nothing. Mixed into any drink, even something as plain as water, it's almost undetectable.
Why is this collagen unflavoured?
Cheaper collagen peptides tend to have a stronger metallic, chemical aftertaste, which most brands mask with added flavouring and sweeteners. Because ours is broken down to a smaller ~3,000 Dalton peptide size, the taste is already mild enough to leave unflavoured.
What does each serving contain?
Each serving is 2 tablespoons, containing 11 g of collagen peptide powder which is a source of protein.
What does "hydrolysed" mean, and why does it matter?
Hydrolysis is the process of breaking whole collagen protein down into much shorter chains called peptides. Whole collagen doesn't dissolve in water and isn't well absorbed. Hydrolysing it is what makes it possible to mix into a drink and for your body to take it up.
What is a Dalton, and why does 3,000 matter?
A Dalton is a unit of molecular weight. Most collagen peptides on the market sit around 5,000 Daltons. Ours is hydrolysed further, down to roughly 3,000 Daltons. It is a smaller peptide chain that dissolves faster, disperses more easily in liquid, and has a smoother, less noticeable taste than larger, less-processed peptides.
Why Types I & III collagen specifically?
There are several types of collagen in the body. Type I is the dominant type in skin, bone, tendons and ligaments. It also contains a minor, naturally-occurring amount of Type III, which is the collagen type most closely associated with skin and blood vessel tissue. Rather than a generic mixed-type collagen blend, this formula reflects the ratio these two types naturally occur in together.
Does it contain any allergens?
