Product Description
A gut-friendly iron supplement to support healthy iron levels before, during and after pregnancy. We use Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate. It's a gently-absorbed, clinically studied form of iron chosen to be easier on the stomach than standard iron salts, while still delivering a meaningful daily dose.
Recommended for: Women trying to conceive, pregnant, or breastfeeding, or anyone advised by their healthcare provider to supplement Iron.
Not intended for use in children. Keep out of reach of children. Accidental iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under six, contact a doctor or poison control centre immediately if suspected.
How To Use
Take one capsule daily with water, on an empty stomach. If an empty stomach doesn't agree with you, it's fine to take it with a small snack.
For best absorption, avoid tea, coffee, dairy, and other high-calcium foods within two hours of your dose, as these reduce how much iron you absorb. Vitamin C-rich foods or drinks taken at the same time can help you absorb more.
If you're also taking Moment Prenatal Core, take your Iron capsule at a different time to your PM sachet, separated by at least two hours. The calcium in the PM sachet will reduce how much iron you absorb if taken together.
Safety and Interactions
Allergens: Contains rice protein as an inactive ingredient. If you have a known rice sensitivity or allergy, avoid this product.
Keep out of reach of children. Not intended for use in children. Accidental iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under six, contact a doctor or poison control centre immediately if suspected.
Please consult your doctor, pharmacist, or healthcare provider before use, especially if you are taking any regular medication.
Do not take Gut-friendly Iron if you have any of the following, unless advised otherwise by your doctor:
- An allergy to any active or inactive ingredient
- An iron overload condition (e.g. haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis)
- Anaemia not caused by iron deficiency (e.g. haemolytic or aplastic anaemia)
- Had repeated blood transfusions
Speak to your doctor before taking Gut-friendly Iron if you have:
- Any chronic medical condition, or take prescription medication regularly
The three most important medication interactions:
- Calcium supplements, including our Prenatal Core (calcium reduces iron absorption so separate by at least 2 hours)
- Antacids or proton pump inhibitors (reduce iron absorption so take at a different time)
- Levothyroxine (iron may reduce absorption so separate by at least 4 hours)
This is not an exhaustive list. Please refer to our full Patient Information Leaflet for more detail. These interactions are based on the known pharmacological effects of the ingredients. We have not conducted formal interaction studies on this product.
Benefits
Oxygen Transport
Iron is a core building block of haemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen from your lungs to every tissue in your body, including your growing baby.
Red Blood Cell Formation
Iron, alongside Folate and B12, helps your body produce healthy red blood cells to keep pace with your rising blood volume in pregnancy.
Cognitive Function
Iron contributes to normal cognitive function, supporting concentration and mental clarity, especially when correcting a genuine shortfall.
Reduced Fatigue
When iron runs low, so does your energy, since iron is essential for delivering oxygen to your muscles and brain.
Immune Support
Iron contributes to the normal function of your immune system, supporting your body's natural defences at a time when pregnancy already places extra demands on them.
Third-Party Test Results
Every batch of our Gut-friendly Iron is tested by an international independent lab. Testing covers heavy metals including lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury. Testing scope reflects a risk assessment specific to each product's format and manufacturing process. The Iron capsule's single-ingredient, single-step process carries a different microbial risk profile than the multi-component Prenatal Core. Testing is conducted by Light Labs, an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

Why should I switch to Moment's Gut-friendly Iron?
Standard Iron supplements (like ferrous sulphate) are often poorly tolerated. They're a common cause of constipation, nausea and stomach discomfort. Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate is a gently-absorbed, clinically studied form designed to be easier on the stomach while still delivering a meaningful daily dose of elemental Iron.

Why is Iron sold separately?
Not every woman needs extra Iron. Some already get enough from their diet, and others now top up through other methods, like sprays or IV drips, rather than an oral capsule. Keeping our Iron separate means you can buy it and take it only when you actually need it. It also avoids the absorption competition between Iron and the Calcium included in the PM sachet.
When you do need it, consider our Gut-friendly Iron. We use Ferrochel® Ferrous Bisglycinate, a gentler, chelated form that performs like a much larger dose of standard Iron, without the nausea and constipation iron is known for. Because it's single-ingredient, it's easy to stack as its own dosing event, ideally on an empty stomach or with a small snack, so nothing else interferes with how well it's absorbed.

How does Moment decide on its dosages?
Every dose is set by the research, not by what looks good on a label. Where a nutrient has good evidence at a certain dose, that's what we use, and where the safe upper limit is narrow, like Iodine, Selenium or Vitamin A, we stay well within it rather than push the ceiling.
We also avoid two shortcuts common in this category; token doses, where an expensive nutrient is added in an amount too small to do anything, and megadoses, where a bigger number is used to look more impressive without added benefit.
What are patented ingredient forms, and why does Moment use them?
Some of our ingredients use specific patented forms like Ferrochel® ferrous bisglycinate. These forms are typically backed by their own bioavailability and stability research, and are chelated or buffered in ways designed to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset compared to standard forms. We use them where the evidence supports better real-world uptake, not as a default.

Usage and safety
Are Moment supplements safe to take during conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Our supplements are formulated specifically for conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Every dose is chosen to sit within recognised pregnancy intake limits, and the ingredient forms are selected for better absorption and gentler tolerance. As with any supplement in this journey, we recommend confirming with your healthcare provider before starting, particularly if you have a medical condition, take medication, or have a complex medical history.
When should I start taking the Gut-friendly Iron, and how long should I take it for?
It depends on your individual iron levels, which vary by diet, pregnancy stage, and personal history. Iron requirements do increase significantly during pregnancy, so many women are advised to start once levels are checked via a blood test, whether that's before conceiving, during pregnancy, or postpartum. We'd recommend talking to your doctor about testing your levels first, rather than starting on a fixed schedule.
Are there any allergens I should be aware of?
This product contains rice protein as an inactive ingredient). If you have a known rice sensitivity or allergy, avoid this product.
Will this turn my stools dark?
Yes, and it's harmless. Dark or black stools are a normal, expected effect of Iron supplementation and aren't a sign anything's wrong. The stool is typically dry, formed, and doesn't have a strong odour.
Check in with your doctor if dark stools come with other symptoms, like stomach pain, dizziness, or weakness, or if the stool itself is sticky, tarry, or has a strong odour, as that combination can point to something else in need of attention.
If anything feels off beyond this, or continues past the first week, please check in with your healthcare provider.
How should I store the Gut-friendly Iron?
Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the container tightly closed between use.
Store out of reach of children. Iron supplements need to be taken seriously around children. Accidental iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under six. Always store this product out of children's reach, ideally somewhere they can't see or access it at all, and keep it in its original container.
Is it true that Iron supplements are dangerous for children?
Yes. Iron is a leading cause of fatal accidental poisoning in children under six; even one or two capsules can be dangerous for a small child.
This is exactly why we recommend keeping Gut-friendly Iron out of reach and sight of children at all times, with the lid fully closed after every use. If a child does ingest any at all, treat it as a medical emergency and contact a doctor or poison control immediately, even if they seem fine at first.
How do I take it if I'm also using Prenatal Core?
For the best absorption, take your Iron capsule separately from the PM sachet. Calcium, found in your PM sachet, can reduce iron absorption by up to 50% when taken together.
To help absorption further, pair your Iron with a source of Vitamin C, like a glass of orange juice or a piece of citrus fruit, and avoid tea or coffee around the same time, as they contain compounds that bind iron and reduce how much your body takes up.
