Product Description

Choline is an essential nutrient involved in brain and nervous system development, cell growth and normal liver function. Your body’s need for choline increases during pregnancy and breastfeeding, yet getting enough through diet alone can be challenging.

Our Choline Bitartrate provides 560 mg of choline per daily serving of two capsules, offering a convenient way to supplement your dietary intake.

Recommended for: Women trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding who want to support their choline intake, particularly when dietary intake may be insufficient.

Pack size: 60 capsules | 30-day supply

How to Use

Take two capsules daily with water, preferably alongside a meal or snack.

Choline can be taken at any time of day, so choose a time that works best for your routine. There's no need to take it on an empty stomach or separate it from other supplements.

Do not take Moment Choline Bitartrate if you have:

  • A known allergy to choline bitartrate or any other ingredient in the product.

Speak to your doctor before taking Moment Choline Bitartrate if you have:

  • A liver or kidney condition.

  • Any chronic medical condition requiring ongoing treatment.

Medication & supplement interactions:

Choline is not known to have any clinically significant interactions with medications.

  • Prenatal multivitamins: Choline can generally be taken alongside prenatal supplements, including Moment Prenatal Core. Check your total daily choline intake if using multiple choline-containing products.
  • Prescription medication: Inform your healthcare provider about any supplements you are taking.

Possible side effects:

Choline is generally well tolerated at recommended doses. Excessive intake may cause nausea, vomiting, increased sweating, a fishy body odour or low blood pressure.

Do not exceed the recommended daily serving. The established upper intake limit for adults, including pregnant and breastfeeding women aged 19 and older, is 3,500 mg of total choline per day from food and supplements.

This is not an exhaustive list. Please refer to our full Patient Information Leaflet for more detail.

Benefits

Baby's Brain Development
Choline is essential for your baby's developing brain and nervous system. It helps build brain cell membranes and supports the processes involved in early brain development.

Cognitive Development
Choline plays an important role in learning and memory. Early clinical research suggests that higher maternal choline intake during pregnancy may support faster information processing and improved attention in children.

Spinal Cord Development
Alongside folate, choline supports the processes involved in healthy neural tube development, which forms your baby's brain and spinal cord during early pregnancy.

Healthy Liver Function
Choline helps the liver metabolise and transport fats, contributing to normal liver function and healthy fat metabolism.

Cell Growth & Development
Choline is a building block of cell membranes and supports DNA methylation, a process involved in regulating gene activity. These functions are especially important during pregnancy, when your baby is growing rapidly.

Third-Party Testing

Every batch of our Choline Bitartrate is independently tested by Light Labs, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory.

Testing covers heavy metals, including lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury, as well as microbial contaminants such as E. coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, coliforms and mould.

Frequently asked questions

We take our supplements seriously

Product

Why is choline so important during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Choline is an essential nutrient that supports your baby's developing brain, spinal cord and nervous system. It plays a role in building brain cells, supporting neural development and regulating processes involved in growth.

Despite its importance, choline is often overlooked in prenatal supplements, with many containing little or none at all.

Why does Moment provide 560 mg of choline?

The adequate intake is 450 mg per day during pregnancy and 550 mg during breastfeeding, including choline from food and supplements.

A South African study involving pregnant women attending an antenatal clinic found a median dietary choline intake of 275 mg/day, with 84.7% consuming less than the 450 mg Adequate Intake.

Emerging research suggests that higher intakes during pregnancy may offer additional benefits. In a clinical trial at Cornell University, women consuming 930 mg of total choline daily during their third trimester had babies who demonstrated faster information processing than those whose mothers consumed 480 mg.*

We chose 560 mg as a meaningful supplemental dose to help women meet their nutritional needs, while recognising that choline intake from food also contributes.

Does choline actually improve my baby's cognitive development?

Early human research is promising.

A Cornell University study found that babies whose mothers consumed 930 mg of choline daily during late pregnancy processed information faster than those whose mothers consumed 480 mg.

A follow-up study also found improvements in sustained attention at age seven.

These were relatively small studies, so further research is needed. However, they reinforce the importance of getting enough choline during pregnancy.

Why does Moment use choline bitartrate?

Choline bitartrate is a well-established form of supplemental choline that provides choline in a concentrated, practical capsule format.

We chose it because it allows us to deliver a meaningful 560 mg daily dose without requiring an unnecessarily large number of capsules.

Can't I just get enough choline from food?

Absolutely. Eggs, meat, fish and dairy are good dietary sources of choline.

However, meeting your daily requirements can be challenging, especially if you avoid certain foods or experience food aversions during pregnancy.

Our supplement helps bridge the gap between your dietary intake and your nutritional needs.
